Delivered in partnership with Turbo Touch New Zealand and Pacific island nation education departments, the Turbo Touch Diabetes Prevention Program is an experiential learning format that offers a fun and engaging way for participants to be active, get fit, and learn about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity in preventing the onset of diabetes. The program is specifically targeted to the interests and motivations of youth in South Pacific Islands where death rates from diabetes are the highest in the world. The central element of the program is Turbo Touch, a cross-training option incorporating the skills of Netball, Rugby, Rugby League and Basketball. Turbo Touch promotes exercise whilst developing fundamental movement skills. Incorporated into the program are a range of "Eat Healthy - Be Active" messages delivered through interactive mediums and processes. Participating schools receive a Turbo Touch - Exercise to Beat Diabetes kit, and nominated staff and students participate in a "Train the Trainer" program. To apply to become a Turbo Touch - Exercise to Beat Diabetes school, complete the Turbo Touch - Exercise to Beat Diabetes registration form.
