PNG Model schools Project
The PNG Model schools Project has been established to build Self-reliance through building teaching and learning capacity
The Papua New Guinea (PNG) Model School Project has been established to build both organisational teaching and individual learning capacity in selected schools. The objective is to engage teaching and learning communities (teachers, students, parents, administrators) in experimenting with and testing possible teaching and learning improvements, solutions, and innovations as part of creating an innovative education model that serves their community. Other schools can learn from the model, adopting or adapting it according to their circumstances. Pacific Assist has commenced the project by partnering with Birdwing Independent School. Birdwing Independent has been operating in the community of Boroko, Port Moresby for 12 years. It has 12 teachers and a population of approximately 120 students, ranging in age from 5 – 13 years old. The school is large enough to provide a reasonable community sample, yet small enough to ensure the project is manageable in its establishment phase.
